Abstract

Abstract: EP1317

Type: Poster Sessions

Abstract Category: Clinical aspects of MS - MS Variants

Relevance of the study and purpose: multiple sclerosis (MS) in most cases has a wave-like (remitting) course with alternating episodes of exacerbations (exacerbation) and remissions. The disease affects mainly young and middle-aged people. The purpose of research is to study the clinical and demographical characteristics of multiple sclerosis in Kazakhstan.
Materials and methods: the study includes 260 patients with the RMS in the northern regions of Kazakhstan. During of the study, parameters such as sex, ethnicity, average age of patients and the average age of debut of the disease, clinical manifestations in the MS debut, degree of disability using the double evaluation system (including the scale of the functional systems Kurtzke (FS) and the extended disability status scale (EDSS)). Statistical processing performs using the SPSS PASW Statistics 18 program.
Results: the total number of patients is 260 people. The study identified 4 cases with clinic optionality, 256 people with RMS. The RMS registers in 184 women (71.95%) and 72 men (28.1%), 4 women with the Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NOSD). Asian population of 44 people with the RMS (17.2%), the European population of 212 people with the RMS (82.8%). 4 patients with the NOSD are persons from Asian population. The average age of patients with RMS made up 42,41±11,35, the average age of patients with a range of optionality (the NOSD) was 30±3,67. Age of debut when RMS made up 31,02±9,55, with a NOSD of 25±4.24 years. The debut of the clinic RMS starts with visual impairment in 44 patients (17.2%), cerebellar - in 59 (23%), pyramid - 97 (37.9%), sensory - 45 (17.6%), stem - 10 (3.9%), and sphincter - 1 (0.4%). The debut of the clinic NOSD in all 4 patients manifested visual disorders. The degree of disability according to EDSS within 0-1 points have-25 patients (9.8%), 1.5-4.5 points-121 patients (47.3%), 5.0-6.5 points- 92 (35,9%), 7,0-9,5 score-18 patients (7.0%).
Conclusion: among women with RMS, women prevail, in the ratio of men and women-1:2.5, as well as persons of the European population 1:4,8, the disease in the debut affects people older than 20-30 years, the manifestation of the disease is more often characterized by the defeat of the pyramidal function, with a high degree of disability, corresponding to the 2nd and 3rd group of disability. Individuals with NOSD were found exclusively in individuals of the Asian population, female, with loss of visual function.
