Introduction: Similar to other autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis is more common in women than men and also the incidence among women is increasing. Likewise qualitative differences between women and men are seen in the course of the disease. In this study we wanted to investigate the levels of testosterone in the 70 multiple sclerosis patients.

Aim: Between the years 2013-2015 this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between low testosterone levels and MS.

Methods: Between the years of 2013-2015 blood samples of 70 patients who were diagnosed with MS and admitted to the neurology department of İstanbul Faculty of Medicine were taken and testosterone levels were measured. The obtained results were compared with the frequency of attacks.

Conclusions: There are 43 women and 27 men in this study. Age interval were 22 - 72. Female:Male were 1.5 Average age was 36,5. The interval of blood testosteron was 1,95 - 9,91 in men, blood testosterone value level of all patients was 0.38, in 3 patients testosterone level increased after the acute episode.

Discussion: In this preliminary study a correlation between testosterone levels and disease was determined. Low testosterone in the blood of women can be taken as the higher risk of multiple sclerosis.It has also been reported that testosterone treatment has an effect on preventing attacks. But there are very few studies reported on this subject. More detailed studies and neurohormonal treatment studies must be conducted.. Hormones can play an important role in the protection of MS treatment.
